The development of children with ADHD into adulthood:

What is ADHD and how does it progress into adulthood?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder with or without Hyperactivity (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects many people,
both in childhood and in adulthood. While some children with ADHD see improvement in their symptoms as they get older, about 60% still
have symptoms as adults.

1. Does ADHD go away over time?
For some people, ADHD symptoms decrease as they become adults. For others, ADHD may change form. For example, hyperactive symptoms may become less severe, but attention and organisation problems often remain.

2. What are the symptoms of ADHD in adulthood?
ADHD in adults appears differently than in children. The main symptoms include:
 Difficulty managing multiple tasks at once: A person may have difficulty completing many activities.
 Lack of concentration: it can be difficult to concentrate on a task, whether it is something simple or more demanding.
 Poor memory: Easily forgets things like appointments or commitments.
 Impulsiveness: Often acts or speaks without thinking first.
 Mood swings: Mood swings and easy frustration.
 Lack of organization: Has trouble planning and completing simple daily tasks.
 Procrastination: Often puts off tasks or duties, either at work or at home.
An example might be an adult who cannot meet deadlines, constantly puts off tasks or forgets important things, such as fixing something at home. Another example is often interrupting others when they are talking without realizing it.

3. Do adults with ADHD need help?
Yes, they need help. When undiagnosed and untreated, ADHD can cause serious problems in relationships, work and daily life. It can even
lead to addictions or carelessness, such as reckless driving. With the right treatment, such as psychological support and lifestyle adjustments, adults with ADHD can significantly improve their quality of life.

We will soon talk about this as well….
